The Kidney Centre was established
in the year 1976 with two dialysis
machines. Now it has five machines
along with a CRRT (Continuous Renal
Replacement Therapy) machine placed
in the ICU and one more regular haemodialysis
machine in ICU for acute dialysis
for ICU patients who cannot be transferred
to Kidney Centre for treatment. |
|
The
CRRT machine in the ICU is used
for CVVHD (Continuous Venevenous
Haemodialysis) or CVVHDF(Continuous
Venevenous Haemodiafiltration) for
critically ill patients in ICU settings.
This form of dialysis is well tolerated
by haemodynamically unstable patients.
Breach
Candy Hospital also has an active
renal transplantation programme
and related donor transplantations
are regularly conducted.

| Neurophysiology |
 |
The
Neurophysiology Department, set up in
October 1997, offers EEG, both routine
and at the bedside, EMG and nerve conduction
studies, and evoked potentials (visual,
auditory and somatosensory). Equipment
and facilites for polysomnography will
soon be available.
|
| Obstetrics
& Gynaecology |
 |
The
department offers comprehensive gynaecological
services, ranging from routine examination
and family planning to highly specialised
procedures. Common problems treated include
abnormal bleeding, uterine fibroids, pelvic
infections, endometriosis and loss of
bladder control. Generations of women
have benefitted from the maternity services.
|
|
The
department has pioneered several techniques
of diagnosis and treatment. In the area
of minimally invasive surgery, it is a
world leader. Also known as 'keyhole'
surgery, it is increasingly replacing
'open' surgery at the hospital. The advantages
of the approach comprise faster recovery,
shorter hospital stay and less post-operative
pain. Endoscopic surgery is used to treat
almost all reproductive tract problems,
including ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids
and tubal pregnancy.
The
technique of hyteroscopy was used for
the first time in India at our Hospital.
In fact, following the introduction of
hyteroscopy, there has been a significant
reduction in the number of hyterectomies
performed. The maternity services are
supported by an excellent neonatal
intensive care unit for looking after
critically ill babies.

Paediatrics
|
 |
The
Paediatric Department caters to all health
care needs of children, from birth to
adolescence. At the daily OPD, paediatricians
treat a wide variety of childhood ailments,
referring surgical conditions to paediatric
surgeons who operate regularly at the
hospital. In addition, emergency care
is provided round the clock.
The hospital conducts a 'well baby clinic'
that offers immunisation, monitors growth
and development of children, and counsels
mothers on nutrition and other child-health
related issues.
