Biochemistry
and Microbiology

The
Biochemistry Department is
fully automated and has a random access
floor model chemistry analyzer 'The
Synchron Cx4 delta' from Beckman
USA and a random access bench top
analyzer the 'NEXCT' from Schiappareli
USA. Both these two equipments are
capable of processing urgent (STAT)
samples, and also maintain strict
quality assurance to give reports
in a very short turn around time.

| The
biochemistry laboratory is capable of reporting
very urgent samples for the ICU patients,
on electrolytes and arterial blood gases,
on equipments like the Elise Electrolyte
Systems from Beckman USA, on blood gas
analusers like the Ciba corning 288
model from Bayers and ABL 725 model
from the Radiometer.
Special
Biochemistry investigations like
the abnormal proteins are reported on
the Nephelometer from the Beckman and
on various electrophoresis pattern (proteins,
haemoglobins, lipoproteins and immunofixation
electrophoresis) on the Paragon Electrophoretic
system with Appraise densitometer from
Beckman. Important investigations like
the adenosine deaminase, angotensin converting
enzymes are also carried out in the laboratory.
The
Department of Microbiology is recognized
as a center of excellence and is a prime
reference center both for hospital and
private clinics. We offer state-of-the-art
diagnostic service, infection control
programmes and research work.

from the routine tests, the department
is well equipped and designed to deliver
accurate results in a timely manner.

- BACTEC
MGIT960 TB culture fully automated system.
Quality
control
- The
department maintains its quality reporting
through numerous quality control programmes
viz. the CMC quality control scheme
from Vellore, the Randox International
Quality Assessment Scheme from UK, and
Biorad Laboratories External Quality
Assurance Services
- Regular
monthly samples are also exchanges for
quality control with the Raptakos Brett
Diagnostic Laboratory and with Jaslok
Hospital Pathology Department as and
when required.
- The
laboratory carries strict internal quality
control, which is done twice a day by
Automated Analyzers.
- Reports
are available to the Clinicians in the
conventional and standard international
units.

for bed side procedures including temporary
pacemaker implant procedures

Department |

The
Endoscopic Department was inaugurated in
2002 with the latest Fuginon fibre optic
endoscope instruments and equipment to perform
complicated procedures like ERCP, cauterization
of esophageal varices and duodenal biopsies
etc.

EEG
|
 |
The
EEG Department has a fully functional 18
+ 2 channel EEG machine for performing Electro
Encephalo Graphic & EMG studies, AER/AVR,
Polysomnography studies and BERA testing
for patients with seizures, sleep disorders
and other neurological complaints.
